JPG vs PNG: Which Image Format Should You Use?
JPG and PNG are both widely used image formats, but they are designed for different needs. JPG normally uses lossy compression and is well suited to photographs. PNG supports lossless compression and transparency, making it useful for graphics, logos and screenshots.
When PNG is useful
Choose PNG when transparent backgrounds, sharp text, interface screenshots or repeated editing are important.
When JPG is useful
JPG is often a practical choice for photographs and images where a smaller file size matters more than preserving every original pixel.
What happens when JPG becomes PNG?
Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore information that was already lost during JPG compression. The output can use PNG compression, but it cannot recreate the original pixels.
